BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S 2   SHIFNAL TOWN 0   Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 29 March 2022   Against possibly the best side in the league, to lose by a penalty and an own goal was not a cause for great alarm in the Shifnal camp. Town almost took the lead after just 4 minutes, when Matthew Barnes-Homer pulled the ball back from the by-line for Jeremy Abbey, but he was unable to get a good contact with the ball, which passed inches wide of the far post. Mikes opened the scoring after 9 minutes, when ROB THOMPSON-BROWN was tripped in the penalty area, the same player sending Andy Wycherley the wrong way from the spot. The tricky Kyle Byrne made a chance for himself on 26 minutes, cutting in from the right, but his shot from the edge of the box was straight at Wycherley. The visitors were giving as much as they were getting, and in the 39 th minute, Liam Palmer’s cross from the right was headed narrowly wide by Dave Easthope. Wycherley did wel...

WOLVERHAMPTON CASUALS 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 2  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 26 March 2022   This was the sort of game that would have been expected between a mid-table side and one fighting to avoid finishing in one of the relegation places. A strong wind and an uneven playing surface made controlled football difficult, but the home side adapted better to the conditions, particularly in the first 45 minutes. Casuals opened the scoring after 13 minutes, Ronan Sheehan making a fine 80-yard run before passing inside for Isaac Adegoke, who turned the ball into the path of JORDAN WILSON , the centre-forward netting from 10 yards. Town’s first decent move came on 21 minutes, when Liam Palmer put the ball through for Tom Hill, but his angled effort was wide of the far post. James Bennett-Tindall’s ball into the penalty area in the 33 rd minute fell to Jeremy Abbey, his low 15-yard shot bringing a diving save from Jake Daniel.   Shifnal looked a bette...

STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS 2 SHIFNAL TOWN 2 Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 22 March 2022

STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 2  Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 22 March 2022   An entertaining clash between two middle-of-the-table sides ended with honours even, although on balance, Shifnal possibly deserved more. The visitors made the perfect start, with a goal inside 2 minutes. A good break down the left ended with ANDRE BROWN calmly slotting the ball past the home keeper from 15 yards. The home side hit back, and were level after 11 minutes, when JACK BOWATER smashed home a ball crossed from the left, from the edge of the penalty area. 4 minutes later, a moment of controversy saw Shifnal denied a goal when Andre Brown rose to head home a cross from Liam Palmer, the Town players stunned when the referee awarded the hosts a free-kick for an alleged foul on the goalkeeper. Town’s misery was compounded in the 21 st minute, when Stone took the lead in bizarre fashion. The Town keeper hesitated a fraction too long in attempting to clea...

UTTOXETER TOWN 1 SHIFNAL TOWN 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 19 March 2022

UTTOXETER TOWN 1  SHIFNAL TOWN 1  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 19 March 2022   Both sides will probably feel that they deserved more from this game, but in all honesty, a sharing of the points was a fair result. A strong wind had a significant effect on the play, and this, coupled with a bumpy playing surface, made controlled football very difficult. The hosts managed the wind conditions better than the visitors before the break, and they created most of the chances on offer in this period. Leo Emery was a consistent thorn in Shifnal’s side, and he made a good run after 11 minutes before squaring the ball to Harry Griffiths, but his 20-yard shot was straight at Andy Wycherley. The Shifnal keeper made a rare error in the 21 st minute, coming out for and missing a cross. The ball was crossed back into the penalty area, and Sam Griffiths smashed the ball against his own upright. Emery was again at the heart of the action on 31 minutes, his 18-ya...

SHIFNAL TOWN 1 HANLEY TOWN 0 Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 15 March 2022

SHIFNAL TOWN 1  HANLEY TOWN 0  Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 15 March 2022   A gritty performance from Shifnal saw them inflict only Hanley’s second league defeat of the season. The hosts made a bright start, and Jack Fishman’s through ball found Matthew Barnes-Homer in space in the first minute, but his 20-yard shot was too high. Most of the play took place in the middle third of the pitch, with not a lot of goalmouth action. The visitors looked dangerous on 19 minutes, but Andy Wycherley kept the scoresheet blank with a couple of fine saves. A good move on the Shifnal right a minute before the break ended with Brandon Tanomjit firing over from the edge of the penalty area.   The only goal of the game came a minute into the second period, JEREMY ABBEY firing home after the visiting keeper had made a good save. The visitors pressed hard to get back on terms, but the home defence was superb and hardly put a foot wrong. The closest Hanley ca...
