Both sides will probably feel that they deserved more from this game, but in all honesty, a sharing of the points was a fair result. A strong wind had a significant effect on the play, and this, coupled with a bumpy playing surface, made controlled football very difficult. The hosts managed the wind conditions better than the visitors before the break, and they created most of the chances on offer in this period. Leo Emery was a consistent thorn in Shifnal’s side, and he made a good run after 11 minutes before squaring the ball to Harry Griffiths, but his 20-yard shot was straight at Andy Wycherley. The Shifnal keeper made a rare error in the 21st minute, coming out for and missing a cross. The ball was crossed back into the penalty area, and Sam Griffiths smashed the ball against his own upright. Emery was again at the heart of the action on 31 minutes, his 18-yard drive being saved at the foot of the post by Wycherley. A minute before the interval, a long ball picked out Emery, who turned inside, only to see his low shot shave the outside of the post.

Shifnal looked a different side after the break, and thought they had opened the scoring in the 51st minute, when Tom Hill’s bullet header from Jack Fishman’s corner was scraped out by Jack Tolley, the visitors’ claims that the ball had crossed the line falling on deaf ears of the officials. The home side should have taken the lead on 56 minutes, when Sean Jones’ misplaced header fell to the unmarked Reuben Kenny, but he shot wide from 15 yards. The opening goal was a well-worked move by Shifnal in the 62nd minute, starting with a cross from the right. A neat one-two between Hill and BRANDON TANOMJIT ended with the latter slotting past Tolley from 10 yards. 2 minutes later, Emery burst through, but his 25-yard shot was hopelessly wide. The visitors were close to doubling their advantage on 71 minutes, when Wycherley’s wind-assisted goal-kick reached Reece Taylor, but his 20-yard drive was into the side-netting. The equaliser came after 83 minutes, when Ollie Richie broke on the right, and his low cross was turned in at the near post by DAN HARPER. A minute before the final whistle, Uttoxeter substitute Rob Hepburn forced a fine save from Wycherley, ensuring that points were shared.
