 BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 0

Midland Football League, Premier Division

Tuesday 29 March 2022

Against possibly the best side in the league, to lose by a penalty and an own goal was not a cause for great alarm in the Shifnal camp. Town almost took the lead after just 4 minutes, when Matthew Barnes-Homer pulled the ball back from the by-line for Jeremy Abbey, but he was unable to get a good contact with the ball, which passed inches wide of the far post. Mikes opened the scoring after 9 minutes, when ROB THOMPSON-BROWN was tripped in the penalty area, the same player sending Andy Wycherley the wrong way from the spot. The tricky Kyle Byrne made a chance for himself on 26 minutes, cutting in from the right, but his shot from the edge of the box was straight at Wycherley. The visitors were giving as much as they were getting, and in the 39th minute, Liam Palmer’s cross from the right was headed narrowly wide by Dave Easthope. Wycherley did well to restrict the half-time score to 1-0 when he dived to save from Joe Daley a minute before the break.

Daley was close after 51 minutes, when his drive from just outside the penalty area was just wide of the post. A minute later, as the hosts pressed to extend their lead, a through ball found Alex McSkeane, but he fired wide of the mark. Town hit back, and Tyrone Ofori was put through on 55 minutes, only for his 20-yard shot to be saved by Adam Whitehouse with his legs. The second goal was unfortunate for the visitors when a left-wing corner was diverted into his own net by SAM GRIFFITHS in the 76th minute. 2 minutes later, Town were close to pulling a goal back when Easthope’s cross found substitute Andre Brown, but his fierce drive from 15 yards was deflected for a corner. Byrne and McSkeane had chances for the home side before the final whistle, as did Andre Brown for Town, but the final score remained at 2-0.
