Shifnal are showing how much they are a team in transition with their recent form, a decent display being followed by a disappointing one.

The majority of the first half was a drab affair punctuated by a few glaring misses by Shifnal in particular and a breakaway goal by AFC.

The first effort on either goal came in the 15th minute when George Scott in the Shifnal goal dived low to his right to keep out a shot from the edge of the box.

On 22 mins Shifnals Brandon Tanomjit should have hit the target with a free header from 8 yards but put it wide.

AFC took the lead slightly against the run of play on 29 mins when Ty Knight was left completely free and beat Scott with a fine shot from 18 yards.

Shifnal had three good chances before half time but poor finishing led to them going in one down.

 

 Shifnal again should have drawn level within 10 minutes of the restart with shots either being saved on the line or hit straight at the Goalies chest.

On 63 minutes and after a poor clearance by George Scott AFC almost added a second but George redeemed himself with an excellent save pushing a goal bound shot for a corner, following the corner Shifnal somehow survived a goalmouth scramble with the ball eventually being whacked clear.

Without having done doing anything special for 80 minutes Wulfs made it 2 0 when Shifnals defence were split through the centre and Tom Poole hit the ball into the net unchallenged.

Despite Shifnals best efforts for the remainder of the game they never really looked like scoring and AFC Wulfs finished the day in 2nd place in the MPL.

HIGHGATE UNITED 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 1  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 16 April 2022   After a good first half performance, Shifnal fell away after the break and ultimately got what they deserved from the game – nothing. The home side were looking for a result to ensure that they kept distance between themselves and the relegation places, and they had the majority of the possession in the first half without ever looking to trouble the Shifnal keeper Sheridan Martinez. After a period of Highgate pressure, Town came close to opening the scoring after 14 minutes. Andre Brown had a shot from 15 yards blocked by a defender, the ball falling to Ashley Brown whose shot was cleared off the line.
