A comprehensive victory for Shifnal against the team which put them out of the FA Cup earlier in the season, and which won at The Beeches in the league, too. A very tight first 45 minutes gave no clue as to how the game would end up. The hosts created the first chance of the game in the 5th minute following some neat interplay, Tyrone Ofori’s 20-yard shot passing the wrong side of the upright. The visitors’ first attempt on goal came after 26 minutes, when Darragh Bustin latched on to a long kick from goalkeeper Peter Hawk, but his shot from the edge of the penalty area was straight at Andy Wycherley. It was a long ball that led to Town’s opener on 37 minutes. Ryan Pryce launched the ball from just inside the Tividale half into the penalty area, where BRANDON TANOMJIT back-headed the ball over Hawk and into the net.

 

Very little was seen of the visitors as an attacking force after the interval, whereas Town looked eager to put their weekend defeat at Highgate behind them. A spell of two goals in three minutes effectively sealed the three points. The second goal came in the 56th minute, when Reece Taylor’s cross from the right was missed by a defender, TOM HILL nipping in to slot home from close range. 2 minutes later, Hill played Andre Brown in, but his 15-yard shot was superbly turned over the crossbar by Hawk. The resulting corner from Jack Fishman was headed home by SAM GRIFFITHS, despite a valiant attempt by a defender to clear off the line. This knocked the stuffing out of the visitors, and apart from an angled effort from Brown which flashed past the far post on 81 minutes, there was very little goalmouth action before the final whistle.

The majority of the first half was a drab affair punctuated by a few glaring misses by Shifnal in particular and a breakaway goal by AFC. The first effort on either goal came in the 15 th minute when George Scott in the Shifnal goal dived low to his right to keep out a shot from the edge of the box. On 22 mins Shifnals Brandon Tanomjit should have hit the target with a free header from 8 yards but put it wide. AFC took the lead slightly against the run of play on 29 mins when Ty Knight was left completely free and beat Scott with a fine shot from 18 yards.   BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S 2   SHIFNAL TOWN 0   Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 29 March 2022   Against possibly the best side in the league, to lose by a penalty and an own goal was not a cause for great alarm in the Shifnal camp. Town almost took the lead after just 4 minutes, when Matthew Barnes-Homer pulled the ball back from the by-line for Jeremy Abbey, but he was unable to get a good contact with the ball, which passed inches wide of the far post. Mikes opened the scoring after 9 minutes, when ROB THOMPSON-BROWN was tripped in the penalty area, the same player sending Andy Wycherley the wrong way from the spot. The tricky Kyle Byrne made a chance for himself on 26 minutes, cutting in from the right, but his shot from the edge of the box was straight at Wycherley. HIGHGATE UNITED 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 1  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 16 April 2022   After a good first half performance, Shifnal fell away after the break and ultimately got what they deserved from the game – nothing. The home side were looking for a result to ensure that they kept distance between themselves and the relegation places, and they had the majority of the possession in the first half without ever looking to trouble the Shifnal keeper Sheridan Martinez. After a period of Highgate pressure, Town came close to opening the scoring after 14 minutes. Andre Brown had a shot from 15 yards blocked by a defender, the ball falling to Ashley Brown whose shot was cleared off the line.
