A solid team performance brought Shifnal a well-deserved victory against second-placed Lichfield. The visitors were the better side from the start, and could have taken the lead after only 3 minutes. Ryan Pryce played the ball through for new boy Jeremy Abbey, but his 20-yard shot was saved at the second attempt by James Beeson. Tom Hill and Reece Taylor combined well in the 14th minute, but Hill’s low 20-yard effort was just wide of the far post. The first chance for the hosts came midway through the first period, but Lewi Burnside’s drive from outside the penalty area was too high. The opening goal came on 38 minutes following good work by Hill and Abbey, the ball falling for MATTHEW BARNES-HOMER 15 yards out, and his low shot was too good for Beeson.

The home side made a couple of half-time substitutes, and looked lively for a while, but it was the visitors that scored the all-important second goal on 56 minutes. Jack Fishman’s cross from the right was only half-cleared, and ASHLEY BROWN beat Beeson with a low shot from 15 yards. City were handed a lifeline after 61 minutes, when Kane Auld brought down Cameron Dunn in the penalty area, DAN LOMAS converting the resulting spot-kick. The home side pressed for a period after this, but the nearest they came to an equaliser was a Max Dixon effort from the edge of the penalty area after 74 minutes, which was too close to Andy Wycherley. 2 minutes later, Town substitute Dave Easthope played a defence-splitting pass through for fellow substitute Tyrone Ofori, but he was robbed by Beeson diving at his feet before he could get his shot away. Barnes-Homer came close with a couple of late shots, but the score remained at 2-1 to the visitors.
