LICHFIELD CITY 1  SHIFNAL TOWN 2  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 26 February 2022   A solid team performance brought Shifnal a well-deserved victory against second-placed Lichfield. The visitors were the better side from the start, and could have taken the lead after only 3 minutes. Ryan Pryce played the ball through for new boy Jeremy Abbey, but his 20-yard shot was saved at the second attempt by James Beeson. Tom Hill and Reece Taylor combined well in the 14 th minute, but Hill’s low 20-yard effort was just wide of the far post. The first chance for the hosts came midway through the first period, but Lewi Burnside’s drive from outside the penalty area was too high. The opening goal came on 38 minutes following good work by Hill and Abbey, the ball falling for MATTHEW BARNES-HOMER 15 yards out, and his low shot was too good for Beeson.   The home side made a couple of half-time substitutes, and looked lively for a while, but it was the v...

SHIFNAL TOWN 0  RACING CLUB WARWICK 2  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 12 February 2022   Perhaps not surprisingly, Shifnal never recovered after conceding a goal after just 18 seconds – particularly as they were 2-0 down after 7 minutes. Straight from the kick-off, the visitors surged forwards, the ball falling to ROMARIO MARTIN on the edge of the penalty area. He sidestepped a challenge, then drove low in to the net, giving Andy Wycherley no chance. Then on 7 minutes, the hosts made a hash of defending a free-kick, the ball falling to CAL TEMPLETON who prodded home from close range. 3 minutes later, Town thought they had pulled a goal back, when Tyrone Ofori headed home from James Bennett-Tindall’s free-kick, but the referee blew for an infringement. Midway through the half, Jack Fishman tested keeper Dan Crane with a 25-yard free-kick, which he pushed over the crossbar. Martin did well on the half hour, holding off Sam Griffiths’ challenge, ...

SHIFNAL TOWN 1 BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S 2 Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 8th February 2022

SHIFNAL TOWN 1  BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S 2  Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 8th February 2022   Having gone in at the break level at 1-1, Shifnal were most unlucky to lose to a stoppage-time penalty. In the opening 20 minutes, Mikes’ Kyle Byrne was given the freedom of the park – indeed, it would not have been a surprise if he had driven his sheep across the centre circle at half-time! He gave James Bloor a torrid time, creating several good chances which were not converted. Shifnal opened the scoring from their first attack after 24 minutes, totally against the run of play, from the best piece of football of the whole game. Ashley Brown, on his debut, made a surging run half the length of the field, then pulled the ball back from the by-line for TYRONE OFORI to net at the far post. Inevitably, the lead was short-lived, the visitors equalising 5 minutes later when JOSEPH DALEY converted Lewis Archer’s low cross from the right. The hosts could have ...

Match Report AFC WULFRUNIANS 2 SHIFNAL TOWN 0 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 5TH February 2022

AFC WULFRUNIANS 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 0  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 5 TH February 2022   Shifnal are showing how much they are a team in transition with their recent form, a decent display being followed by a disappointing one. The majority of the first half was a drab affair punctuated by a few glaring misses by Shifnal in particular and a breakaway goal by AFC. The first effort on either goal came in the 15 th minute when George Scott in the Shifnal goal dived low to his right to keep out a shot from the edge of the box. On 22 mins Shifnals Brandon Tanomjit should have hit the target with a free header from 8 yards but put it wide. AFC took the lead slightly against the run of play on 29 mins when Ty Knight was left completely free and beat Scott with a fine shot from 18 yards. Shifnal had three good chances before half time but poor finishing led to them going in one down.    Shifnal again should have drawn level within 10 minutes ...
