Shifnal halted their depressing run of two home defeats with a well-earned draw against the league leaders – despite having to play the final half-hour with ten men, following the sending-off of Angelo Franco. The visitors came close to opening the scoring after 4 minutes, when the league’s leading goalscorer Jack Edwards picked up a short corner, and his cross-come-shot passed narrowly wide of the far post. A short corner at the other end after 10 minutes brought the first goal of the game. Rees Wedderburn played the ball to new signing James Bennett-Tindall, and his cross was met at the near post by another new signing, CONNOR HUGHES, whose bullet header gave James Beeson no chance. Play was end to end, and after a period of pressure, it came as little surprise when the visitors equalised in the 26th minute. Town keeper George Scott hesitated when a free-kick was played in from the right, and LUKE CHILDS prodded the ball home from close range. Beeson did well on 34 minutes as he tipped Angelo Franco’s 30-yard drive over the crossbar. 3 minutes later, Edwards received the ball wide on the left, but his low angled drive was wide of the far post.

The visitors looked the more dangerous after the break, and Max Dixon should have done better than to head wide in the 47th minute. It looked odds-on a goal on 50 minutes when Sam Fitzgerald had a clear run on goal. He chipped the advancing keeper, but Hughes managed to get back in time to clear the ball just before it crossed the line. Scott excelled himself again after 55 minutes to turn aside Fitzgerald’s 25-yard effort. Franco was dismissed on the hour for a strong challenge in the middle of the field to make Town’s task that much harder. A Lichfield corner came out to Kyle Patterson, but his thunderous 20-yard shot was superbly turned over the crossbar by Scott. 2 minutes later, Town broke as Jake Webb made a fine run down the middle, only to be denied by a last-ditch tackle. Scott made fine saves from Dixon and Ronan Sheehan as the hosts dug in deep to hold on to their point. Then in the 5th minute of time added on, Shifnal could have won the game when a right-wing cross came to the unmarked Kyle Montague, but his header was too close to Beeson.
