SHIFNAL TOWN 1   LICHFIELD CITY 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 30 October 2021   Shifnal halted their depressing run of two home defeats with a well-earned draw against the league leaders – despite having to play the final half-hour with ten men, following the sending-off of Angelo Franco. The visitors came close to opening the scoring after 4 minutes, when the league’s leading goalscorer Jack Edwards picked up a short corner, and his cross-come-shot passed narrowly wide of the far post. A short corner at the other end after 10 minutes brought the first goal of the game. Rees Wedderburn played the ball to new signing James Bennett-Tindall, and his cross was met at the near post by another new signing, CONNOR HUGHES , whose bullet header gave James Beeson no chance. Play was end to end, and after a period of pressure, it came as little surprise when the visitors equalised in the 26 th minute. Town keeper George Scott hesitated when a free-k...

SHIFNAL TOWN 0   STONE OLD ALLEYNIANS 2 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 16 October 2021   A very poor performance by Shifnal saw them second to almost every ball, against a very good Stone side. Town made the worst possible start, conceding a penalty in the first minute as Ben Perks brought down Sam Wilson in the penalty area. DAVID ABELWHITE sent Callum Smith the wrong way from the spot, and things never improved for Shifnal after that. They went 2-0 down on 29 minutes as they were caught on the break, Jack Tomlinson threading the ball through for WILSON , who calmly slotted past Smith from 15 yards. 5 minutes before the break, Tomlinson’s power drive from the edge of the penalty area was well saved by the home keeper, to prevent further damage.   The visitors were quite content to sit on their two-goal advantage after the break, and Town were still unable to manage a meaningful threat on goal. Indeed, the visitors came closer to ad...

SHIFNAL TOWN 4   WILLENHALL TOWN 0 J W Hunt Cup, Round 1 Tuesday 12 October 2021   Shifnal progressed to the next round of the competition against a spirited Willenhall side that plays at a lower level. It took almost an hour before the hosts looked comfortable. Willenhall came close to opening the scoring after 13 minutes, when Jayquarm Mullings’ free-kick was headed by Jack Dale onto the roof of the net. The home side had strong appeals for a penalty turned down by the referee a minute later, when Brad Smith appeared to be tripped in the opposition penalty area. Following a period of sustained pressure, they did break the deadlock in the 18 th minute when Rees Wedderburn’s corner was headed goalwards, and KYLE MONTAGUE turned the ball in from close range. The visitors continued to give as good as they got, and came within a whisker of an equaliser on 33 minutes. Kristian Balozi broke swiftly down the left, and his cross was just out of Dale’s reach. 3 minute...

SHIFNAL TOWN 2 ROMULUS 3 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 9 October 2021

SHIFNAL TOWN 2   ROMULUS 3 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 9 October 2021   This game was won and lost in the first 45 minutes, as Shifnal were unable to test Josh Benton in the visitors’ goal. Danger signs were there as early as the 7 th minute, when Deshon Carty’s header from a right-wing corner was headed off the line. Sufyan Zia saw his 30-yard free-kick deflected for a corner on 20 minutes, Callum Smith getting the final touch to prevent a goal. A minute later, the visitors were ahead as Town showed their vulnerability from corners, CAMERON LEE heading home unchallenged. The second goal had an element of luck after 33 minutes. Kyle Pearson stumbled on the ball, OWEN WATKINS pouncing and firing in off the far post from 20 yards. The visitors’ defence had barely been troubled up until this stage, but the feeling was that if Town could keep the damage down to two goals, there was hope for the second half. It was not to be, however, as 2 mi...

RACING CLUB WARWICK 2  SHIFNAL TOWN 3 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 2 October 2021   Shifnal played their best football of the season so far, over the course of the first 25 minutes, and opened up a 3-0 lead, which could have been 6-0! They nearly came to rue missed chances as the hosts clawed their way back into the game, but fortunately Warwick’s second goal came moments before the final whistle. Town signalled their intent as early as the 4 th minute, when Jake Webb’s angled effort from 20 yards brought a diving save from Lewis Walker. 2 minutes later, they were ahead, when Walker was unable to hold on to Jay Holdcroft’s 20-yard drive, KYLE MONTAGUE following up to net the loose ball. The visitors doubled their advantage a minute later when Webb pulled the ball back from the by-line for KEANU COOPER to lash home at the far post. A minute further on, Jordan Uppal saw Walker manage to turn his swirling cross over the crossbar, as the hosts were...
