A draw was probably the right result from a
game with two tight defences, although both sides had their chances to take
maximum points. The evergreen Lee Chilton tested the Town goalkeeper in the
first minute, with a low drive from just outside the box, which Jake James was
equal to. The first chance to fall to the home side came midway through the
first half, when Tom Hill did well on the left. His cross for Jake Webb was
laid off for Keanu Cooper, but his 20-yard shot lacked power. Shifnal then had
a good passage of play for the next 15 minutes or so, without being able to
break down a solid defence. A minute before the break, Chilton wriggled through
the Town defence, but James made a fine fingertip save to prevent a certain
goal.
The visitors came out strongly for the second
half, and only an assistant’s flag denied Chilton the opening goal. Harry
Cunningham played the ball in for Hill after 52 minutes, but his pass through
for Webb held up on him. 3 minutes later it looked odds on a Town goal when
Keanu Cooper played a through ball for Hill, who lifted the ball over Bradley
Catlow, but agonisingly wide of the post. Play was end to end, but it took until
the 74th minute before Webb was denied by a superb save by Catlow,
following a goalmouth melee.
