OLD WULFRUNIANS 1   SHIFNAL TOWN 2   J W Hunt Cup, Round 2 Tuesday 16 November 2021   Over the 90 minutes, there is little doubt that Shifnal were the better side, but they were made to work very hard for their victory – indeed, the hosts could have won the game moments before Town grabbed the winner. The visitors started strongly, and in the 4 th minute, Jamie Bostock pushed Rees Wedderburn’s cross into the path of Jake Webb, but his shot was deflected for a corner. A minute later, Town were ahead when a corner was knocked out to TOM HILL , who made no mistake from 10 yards. Almost from the kick-off, the hosts went on the attack, and following some poor defending, the ball was played to LOUIS HARPER , who slid the ball past the advancing keeper for the equaliser. Most of the remainder of the first half was played in the Old Wulfs half, but attack after attack petered out in the last third of the field. Bostock saved well from Webb on the half-hour, then a...

SHIFNAL TOWN 2 LYE TOWN 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 13 November 2021

SHIFNAL TOWN 2   LYE TOWN 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 13 November 2021   A very good performance from Shifnal saw them swap places in the league table with the visitors. The hosts got off to the ideal start, JAY HOLDCROFT heading home from Rees Wedderburn’s free-kick with barely a minute on the clock. Although a lot of the first half was played in the middle of the pitch, Shifnal always looked the more dangerous. Harry Cunningham raced down the right in the 35 th minute, but his low drive was saved by Ben Newey with his feet. Further chances were squandered before the hosts grabbed their second goal on 41 minutes – and what a goal! Cunningham laid the ball into WEDDERBURN ’s path on the right. He stepped inside before crashing the ball inside the far post from the corner of the penalty area.   The visitors came out for the second half with their manager’s words ringing in their ears, and they pulled a goal back after 49 minute...

BEWDLEY TOWN 3 SHIFNAL TOWN 8 Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 9 November 2021

BEWDLEY TOWN 3   SHIFNAL TOWN 8 Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 9 November 2021   A topsy-turvy game if ever there was one, as Town raced into an early 3-goal lead, only to allow the hosts to pull back to 3-2 (not for the first time this season). A few harsh words in the dressing-room at half-time then ensured that the lead was rarely threatened in the second period, although Bewdley, to their credit, never gave up. After Harry Cunningham had gone close early on, the visitors took the lead from a corner in the 11 th minute, Rees Wedderburn’s kick being headed home at the far post by the unmarked LEWIS RILEY-STEWART . A minute later, the same player almost netted for the hosts as he deflected a left-wing cross, George Scott making a fine save. James Bennett-Tindall then had a couple of chances to extend Town’s lead, first heading straight at the keeper from Jay Holdcroft’s cross, then seeing his floated effort come back off the inside of the po...

WALSALL WOOD 0 SHIFNAL TOWN 0 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 6 November 2021

WALSALL WOOD 0   SHIFNAL TOWN 0 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 6 November 2021   A truly dreadful game of football ended with the scoreline it deserved! Neither side had a shot on target during the whole game. The nearest to a goal in the first 45 minutes came after 28 minutes, when Rees Wedderburn’s corner was headed wide by Connor Hughes for the visitors.   4 minutes into the second half, home keeper Lloyd Ransome made the only save of the game, when a suicidal back-pass by Phil McKerdy almost caught him out. 4 minutes later in a rare moment of quality, Shifnal’s Jake Webb made ground on the right, but his low cross saw Wedderburn crash the ball against the upright. Kamol Campbell and Lewis Hayden both had long-range efforts for the hosts which were way too high. Most people in the ground breathed a sigh of relief when the referee blew the final whistle.   WALSALL WOOD: Lloyd Ransome, Liam Riley-Stewart, Kamol Campbell, D...
