BOLDMERE ST MICHAEL’S 3   SHIFNAL TOWN 3 (Boldmere won 3-2 on penalties) Buildbase FA Vase, 2 nd Qualifying Round Saturday 25 September 2021   This game was all that you would expect from two teams at the top of the league – a ding-dong battle which could have gone either way right up until the final whistle. The hosts had the first chance in the 2 nd minute, when Robbie Thompson-Brown controlled a ball in from the left, but his shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area was wide. The visitors then began to create the better chances, and a crossfield ball from Harry Cunningham after 9 minutes picked out Jake Webb, who cut in, only for his low 15-yard shot to be saved well by Dan Crane. Mikes went close on 33 minutes, when Thompson-Brown’s free-kick was headed over by Harry Craven. A minute later, Shifnal took the lead with a bizarre goal. KYLE MONTAGUE and a defender went up for Jordan Uppal’s long throw into the box. The defender got his head to th...

SHIFNAL TOWN VS WALSALL WOOD Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 18 September 2021

SHIFNAL TOWN 2   WALSALL WOOD 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 18 September 2021   Despite the scoreline, Shifnal had enough chances to have had the game won by half-time. Ultimately though, it was a good result, considering the absentees from Town’s starting line-up. They were close to opening the scoring with only 40 seconds on the clock, as Tom Hill streaked down the right and cut inside, only for Lloyd Ransome to block his fierce shot, then Kieron Northwood’s follow-up was blocked by a defender. The visitors came back, and George Scott saved comfortably from Jai Verma’s 20-yard effort after 7 minutes. A minute later, Jay Holdcroft should have scored with a header from Harry Cunningham’s pinpoint cross, the ball passing the wrong side of the upright. Shifnal deservedly took the lead in the 16 th minute, when Cunningham’s persistence paid off, enabling him to win the ball just outside the penalty area. He touched the ball to Jake Webb, who...

HAUGHMOND VS SHIFNAL TOWN Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 14 September 2021

HAUGHMOND 0   SHIFNAL TOWN 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Tuesday 14 September 2021   This was a scrappy game, as the home side sought to tighten up at the back in order to start to move away from the wrong end of the league table. Consequently, little was seen of the Mond as an attacking force, with the Shifnal keeper having very little to do. The visitors could have taken the lead after 17 minutes, when a mis-kick by the home keeper fell to Keanu Cooper, but his first-time shot was blocked by a defender. Another deflection denied Harry Cunningham in the 24 th minute, following a fine run down the right and a fierce shot from 20 yards. Cooper had another chance on 29 minutes, his header from Jake Webb’s corner being too close to Jones. The only goal of the game came after 38 minutes, when a corner was only half-cleared. Cunningham crossed to the far post, where Jay Holdcroft headed back across goal for TOM HILL to head home from close range. ...

SHIFNAL TOWN VS HIGHGATE UNITED Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 4 September 2021

SHIFNAL TOWN 0  HIGHGATE UNITED 0 Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 4 September 2021   A draw was probably the right result from a game with two tight defences, although both sides had their chances to take maximum points. The evergreen Lee Chilton tested the Town goalkeeper in the first minute, with a low drive from just outside the box, which Jake James was equal to. The first chance to fall to the home side came midway through the first half, when Tom Hill did well on the left. His cross for Jake Webb was laid off for Keanu Cooper, but his 20-yard shot lacked power. Shifnal then had a good passage of play for the next 15 minutes or so, without being able to break down a solid defence. A minute before the break, Chilton wriggled through the Town defence, but James made a fine fingertip save to prevent a certain goal.   The visitors came out strongly for the second half, and only an assistant’s flag denied Chilton the opening goal. Harry Cunn...
