SHIFNAL TOWN 2  WORCESTER CITY 0  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 29 January 2022   Shifnal could not have wished for a better start to this game against one of the teams fancied to be in the running for promotion at the end of the season. They opened the scoring after just 5 minutes, when Brandon Tanomjit crossed from the left for Matthew Barnes-Homes, whose header back across goal was nonchalantly flicked in at the near post by new signing TYRONE OFORI . 2 minutes later, it was 2-0, when Ofori’s low cross found TANOMJIT , who stroked the ball home from 12 yards. The visitors recovered from the shock start, and Reiss Taylor-Randle was close with a 20-yard drive in the 11 th minute. Play was end to end, and it was the away side that had the next goalscoring opportunity on 27 minutes. A fine through ball found Bailey Fuller in space on the right, but he hopelessly mis-cued his 15-yard shot. Ofori always looked dangerous when in possession,...

TIVIDALE VS SHIFNAL TOWN Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 22 January 2022

TIVIDALE 1  SHIFNAL TOWN 0  Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 22 January 2022   The Beeches has never been one of Shifnal’s happier hunting grounds, and today proved to be no different. In fairness to the hosts, they just about deserved their victory, but they had to work very hard for it. Facing the not insignificant slope, the Shifnal defence put in a sterling performance to keep a clean sheet at half-time. The lively Elliott Hartley caused all sorts of problems on the Shifnal left, and only some excellent goal-keeping by George Scott and some profligate finishing denied him. He should have scored after just 3 minutes when he arrived late at the far post to a ball in from the left, but he blazed over from close range. It was not all one-way traffic, and home keeper Peter Hawk was called upon to make a fine save in the 10 th minute to keep out Brandon Tanomjit’s 20-yard strike. Hartley was through on the Town goal on 15 minutes, but Scott saved s...

WORCESTER CITY 2 SHIFNAL TOWN 1 Midland Football League, Premier Division Wednesday 19 January 2022

WORCESTER CITY 2   SHIFNAL TOWN 1   Midland Football League, Premier Division Wednesday 19 January 2022   A good game, with a lot of good football played by both sides. The host had the better of the first half, but Town were on top for long periods after the break, and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point. City are one of the better sides in this league, but they are unfortunately lumbered with a group of around fifty Neanderthals congregated behind the Shifnal goal, who spent the whole of the game chanting and singing inane obscene “songs”. After a cagy start to the game, the visitors took the lead after 14 minutes, when a fine through ball found MATTHEW BARNES-HOMER , who calmly slotted home form the edge of the penalty area. The Town defence then proceeded to take something of a battering. 2 minutes after the goal, a low cross from the right just evaded the inrushing Archie Muirhead. Then midway through the half, a long ball picked out Ba...

SHIFNAL TOWN 1   LYE TOWN 4   J W Hunt Cup, Round 3 Tuesday 11 January 2022   This was not one of Shifnal’s better performances, against a well-organised Lye side that always seemed to want the result more than their hosts. Shifnal started quite well, and in the 5 th minute, Tom Hill crossed from the by-line for Matthew Barnes-Homer, whose header was too high. Lye’s opener came against the run of play in the 7 th minute. A crossfield ball from the left caught the home defence napping, and HARRISON COOK slotted under George Scott from the edge of the penalty area. It looked as if the hosts had equalised on 15 minutes, when Reece Taylor did well on the right before firing low towards goal. Hill beat the keeper to the ball and netted, only to be denied by the assistant’s flag. 3 minutes later, Shifnal struggled to clear a corner, but Ben Billingham’s powerful 10-yard drive was straight at Scott. Lye extended their lead after 21 minutes, when OLIVER WEST ’s ...
