SHIFNAL TOWN 4   UTTOXETER TOWN 0   Midland Football League, Premier Division Monday 27 December 2021   A much-improved display from Shifnal saw them ease to a comfortable victory against a workmanlike Uttoxeter side. The visitors settled into the game first, as the hosts repeatedly gave the ball away, but they were unable to create many worthwhile chances. The only effort on target from Uttoxeter came after 16 minutes from a long-range effort by James Curley which was straight at John Brown. The hosts gained some rhythm as the half progressed and could have opened the scoring in the 35 th minute, when Tom Hill’s ball inside fell to Keanu Cooper, who chose to lay the ball off rather than shoot. 2 minutes later, Shifnal were ahead following some excellent work by Matthew Barnes-Homer on the right. He crossed low into the six-yard box, where a defender deflected the ball to COOPER , who this time made no mistake, driving into the bottom corner of the net fro...

WHITCHURCH ALPORT 2   SHIFNAL TOWN 0   Midland Football League, Premier Division Monday 20 December 2021   This was a game best forgotten by Shifnal, as they never really managed to get going against a solid Alport side. The writing was possibly on the wall from the first minute, when Town keeper John Brown made a superb save to turn Jimmy Garlick’s header over the crossbar following a left wing corner. Brown was again in action on 12 minutes when Jud Ellis was through. He slipped the ball inside for George Carpenter, but the keeper was swiftly off his line to block the danger. Brown went from hero to villain a minute later, when he fumbled a long range shot, leaving GARLICK a simple tap-in. The visitors were struggling to string together two passes, and it was not until the last kick of the first half that they managed their first meaningful effort on goal. Callum Graybrook’s corner fell to Matthew Barnes-Homer, but his low shot from the edge of the penal...

ROMULUS 2   SHIFNAL TOWN 1   Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 18 December 2021   Shifnal can count themselves somewhat unfortunate not to have come away from the Castle Vale Stadium with at least a point, and probably all three. They were by far the better side in the first half, but had nothing to show for their efforts. Matthew Barnes-Homer brought a fine save from Josh Benton after 14 minutes with an angled drive. 3 minutes later, Barnes-Homer did well on the left before turning the ball inside for Tom Hill. He laid it off for Liam Palmer, whose fierce drive from 20 yards struck the angle of post and crossbar. Play continued in a similar fashion until the break, but neither keeper was seriously troubled.   The visitors started the second half on the front foot, and in the 48 th minute, Hill slid the ball wide from 15 yards after good work by Callum Graybrook. It looked as if Town must score on 59 minutes, when Barnes-Homer’s e...

SHIFNAL TOWN 5   BEWDLEY TOWN 0   Midland Football League, Premier Division Saturday 4 December 2021   After a very tumultuous week for the club, where we have welcomed new manager Jamie Haynes and his assistant manager Kevin Sandwith, Shifnal Town lined up in the Midland Football League game against Bewdley Town with a very different team we have been used to seeing over the last couple of seasons. With so many new faces it was uncertain how the team would gel, but it only took 7 minutes for Shifnal to create their first real opportunity with Tom Hill cutting the ball back to Callum Graybrook who’s shot was saved. A couple minutes later Shifnal were put under pressure when a wayward goal kick ended at the feet of the opposition who quickly counter attacked, with Bewdleys Laurie Morris getting a cross into the box which was dealt with by the ever efficient Connor Hughes. More opportunities created for Shifnal, including a powerful shot just outside the box ...
